Bucharest, July 18, 2017 – Toyota, one of the biggest automotive manufacturers in the world, started delivering 15 Yaris Hybrid units in June to complete the rent-a-car fleet of AVIS Romania. These units are the first rent-a-car fleet with hybrid propulsion system, a first for the Romanian market.

The hybrid propulsion system has numerous benefits, such as fuel efficiency, reduced operating costs, as well as financial and fiscal advantages.

“The hybrid vehicle sales from the last few years allowed us to reduce the negative environmental impacts. We are pleased to have increased our presence in the fleet sector with this advanced propulsion system, including the rent-a-car segment, particularly since this is also a first for the Romanian market. We are aiming to maintain these important investments and partnerships to help both protecting the environment and satisfying the largest possible number of customers that wish to benefit from the advantages of a hybrid vehicle”, says Edit Tarcolea, CEO, Toyota Romania.

The hybrid system has less fatigue-sensitive components, and the existent ones have larger operating periods. For example, the clutch, the alternator and the starter are missing, and most of the time the braking is electromagnetic with energy recovery, which is why brake discs and pads must be replaced far less frequently. Battery is not charged by plug-in but by braking or by thermal engine and it benefits from a manufacturer’s guarantee of 5 years or 100,000 km**. However, if the annual Hybrid Health Checks  are carried out, the coverage can be extended up to 10 years.

From a financial perspective, the annual tax can be up to 100% smaller than in the case of an equivalent model with classic propulsion. The Toyota Hybrid users can enjoy a unique, effortless and comfortable driving experience due to the E-CVT automatic transmission that comes with the standard equipment of the model.

“Avis Romania has the necessary capacity and resources to implement and develop a system for the use of ecologic fleets. The vision, transparency and customer orientation are essential on a very competitive car rental market. Through the fleet diversification, we are aiming to grow the turnover by 10% as compared to the 7.4 million euros for last year”, stated Adrian Halmagean, CEO, Avis Romania.

One of the strategic priorities of Avis Romania is the constant environmental concern, by analyzing the travel impact on the environment. In 2017, Avis Romania initiated a fleet ecologization project on the rent-a-car market in our country. The first step was the acquisition of 15 Toyota Yaris Hybrid cars, followed by 10 electric vehicles that will enter the fleet at the end of this year.

In 2017, Toyota sold 791 hybrid vehicles

According to the APIA report, Toyota sold 791 hybrid units during the first half of 2017, as compared to 192 during the same period of 2016. Most of them, both this year and last year, were represented by the Yaris Hybrid model (32% this year), as the most performing hybrid in the B2B and particularly the fleet segment.

The Toyota hybrid system includes two combined power sources to ensure propulsion. Thus, due to the thermal (gasoline) engine and the electric engine, the benefits of both power sources are fully exploited: increased power and operating efficiency.
