SAMAS Association is a non–governmental organization active in preventive healthcare and health education.
We developed a national network of Perinatal Educators, by providing a complex training program for midwives and nurses, ensuring that parents-to-be have easy access to competent perinatal education and healthcare services, delivered in a friendly, supportive manner.
In addition, we developed the ”Healthy Start” program, aiming to reduce children obesity, via a national educational program implemented in public kindergartens. We specialize kindergarten teachers and nurses in the healthy nutrition for preschool children and we organize activitities for parents and children (such as live cooking sessions, workshops and conferences with specialists), aimed to establish healthy eating habits for children and their families.
SAMAS Association is the sustainable result of a social project initiated by White Cross Foundation, Nutricia ELN Romania and Red Cross Sector 6 in 2013 and funded by Danone Ecosystem until 2016.
Our results so far:
- 2021 families supported by our Baby Box program, aiming to reduce infant mortality and to empower vulnerable parents.
- 2459 healthcare professionals (midwives, medical nurses, community health workers) trained to deliver breastfeeding and infant care courses to parents and parents-to-be.
- 37929 parents (out of which, 18840 disadvantaged parents) beneficiaries of our courses and programs, since 2013.
- 776 kindergarden teachers and nurses trained within the Healthy Start program. 30% of the public kindergartens in the country enrolled in the program, 280912 parents and 56850 children beneficiaries so far.
