Nightingales Children’s Project is based in Cernavoda, in the South-East of Romania, for over 30 years Nightingales has worked in this community with the principle ‘Every child has amazing potential, let’s help them fulfill that potential!’. The organization was started by David Savage MBE, and his desire to change the conditions in the Cernavoda orphanage, especially for the children who were HIV positive. David and his wife Elena, continue to dedicate their lives to Nightingales.
Currently, Nightingales works with young girls, who are at risk of being trafficked into prostitution. They attend a homework club, mentoring sessions, and a chance at the age of 16 to work at our social enterprise; a coffee shop and a soft play area for children. Nightingales works with young men to stop them from trafficking girls, providing a literacy club to prevent them from abandoning school, and the chance to join a football team, where they learn life skills through sport. For 30 years Nightingales has been caring for a group of differently abled adults, some of whom live independently and some live in a house where they are supported in caring for themselves.
In 2024, Nightingales is hoping to open its water sport activity camp near the Danube, as a holiday site for young people.
