On 10 July, the British-Romanian Chamber of Commerce (BRCC) held one of its flagship events, the Garden Party. Taking inspiration from the era of Downton Abbey, the party was held in the elegant gardens of the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Bucharest. Decorated to reflect the timeless elegance of the post-Edwardian era, the event welcomed over 170 distinguished guests from both the public and private sectors, including government representatives, industry leaders and BRCC members.

The Garden Party benefited from the presence of the guest of honour, His Excellency Mr. Giles Portman, British Ambassador to Romania. In his speech, His Excellency, Mr. Giles Portman, British Ambassador to Romania, stated that, “It was a pleasure to attend the BRCC Garden Event and extend my warm congratulations to Robert Uzună as the new Chairman of the Board, as well as to the newly appointed Board. A warm welcome as well to all the members of the Chamber who joined us, and also to those who aren’t members but came along this evening – we hope to see more of you in the future. It’s encouraging to see such a strong and engaged Chamber community.”

His Excellency also highlighted the UK’s growing role in the Romanian economy: “We remain committed to supporting UK businesses in Romania, working closely with the Romanian government to improve transparency, predictability, and market access.

I was delighted to hear that, for the first time, the UK has become the largest inward investor to Romania in the first half of this year, surpassing even the US. That’s a testament to the drive and hard work of many and we’re proud to play a part in that success.”

Mr. Robert Uzună, Vice President for Corporate Affairs at Ursus Breweries and the Chairman of BRCC Board stated in his opening speech that “I would like thank our community of friends of BRCC who joined us in celebrating together in classic, British-style ambiance. It is a special occasion for us, as we are acknowledging the presence of HM Ambassador Giles Portman, from now on in his capacity as Honorary President of BRCC. HM Ambassador’s acceptance is a sign of renewed support and synergy between the efforts of British Government and the business community represented by our Chamber’s members in driving the economic growth between Romania and Great Britain. We are also happy and grateful for the kind support we’ve gathered from our distinguished sponsors. Last, but not least, we are welcoming all our guests to consider attending our other flagship events and to join the ranks of BRCC for what proves to be a thriving and increasingly more successful community.”

As a promoter of bilateral relationships, BRCC’s role is to nurture a strong cooperation with both the British Embassy in Romania and the Romanian Embassy in the United Kingdom, to reinforce trade relations and encourage impactful partnerships.

The evening facilitated meaningful dialogue and collaborative opportunities in an atmosphere of charm and diplomacy.

The soft tones of a live harp performance welcomed attendees, followed by a soulful jazz ensemble that set a sophisticated tone throughout the evening. A highlight of the evening was the UNARTE fashion showcase, presenting a curated collection that blended vintage elegance with contemporary style and offered a refined tribute to timeless sophistication. Adding a distinctive touch to the evening, guests admired a vintage Rolls-Royce Phantom II Sedanca de Ville by Windovers a symbol of timeless craftsmanship from the Țiriac Collection that beautifully echoed the Downton Abbey atmosphere.

The evening ended in style, with a spectacular fireworks display – the perfect finale to a night of sophistication and shared experiences.
