The Tâmpa Cable Car and the Panoramic Restaurant—two architectural and touristic landmarks of Brașov—will reopen on October 19, following an extensive modernization process carried out by ANA Teleferic, part of ANA Holding. The total value of the project exceeds €20 million, with over €12 million invested in the reconstruction of the restaurant and €8 million in the modernization of the cable car.
The reopening of these two emblematic sites for Brașov is marked by the number 5, a symbol of change and reinvention. The year 2025 coincides with two important anniversaries: 50 years since the official inauguration of the Panoramic Restaurant in 1975 and 55 years since the Tâmpa Cable Car began operating—both now reimagined by Dart Architects: Liviu and Ingrid Zârnovean.
The Panoramic Restaurant is a one-of-a-kind destination in Romania, where the charm of 1970s architecture meets the refinement of contemporary gastronomy. After an extensive modernization led by Corvin Cristian Studio and the general contractor RCTI Company, the Panoramic makes a spectacular return in a fresh, versatile contemporary form.
With a total capacity of 470 guests, the venue includes an à la carte restaurant, event hall, VIP Lounge, and several relaxation areas—the bar, terrace, and café—offering visitors a refreshing mountain escape and a breathtaking panoramic view over Brașov and the Țara Bârsei region.
“This investment is more than a modernization project—it is a legacy we leave to Brașov for the next 50 years. We wanted to restore the brilliance of one of the city’s symbols while preparing it for the future, with respect for its history and a vision for generations to come,” — George Copos, President of ANA Holding
Access to the Panoramic Restaurant is primarily via the modernized Tâmpa Cable Car, which now accommodates 25 passengers per trip and up to 6,000 people per day. It is the only cable car in Romania authorized to operate at night and offers full accessibility for persons with disabilities.
The new installation, developed by the Swiss-Austrian consortium Garaventa–Doppelmayr, a world leader in cable transport systems, meets the highest standards of safety, comfort, and energy efficiency. Despite its complete modernization, the Tâmpa Cable Car will maintain its affordable fares.
“We are delighted to offer the people of Brașov and its visitors a modern, safe, and spectacular cable car that continues the tradition started in 1970,” — Ion Rufa, General Manager of ANA Teleferic
Mountain lovers can also reach the Panoramic Restaurant on foot, via two scenic hiking trails—Gabony’s Steps and the Serpentine Path—a picturesque alternative for those wishing to climb Mount Tâmpa.
ANA Teleferic, part of ANA Holding, has owned and operated the Tâmpa Cable Car since 1999. Through this project, the company reaffirms its commitment to strengthening Brașov’s position as a premium tourist destination, breathing new life into one of the city’s most iconic landmarks. The Panoramic Restaurant will be operated by ANA Hotels, the largest and most prestigious private hotel group in Romania.
ANA Holding also includes ANA Tower and ANA Hotels, which operates InterContinental Athénée Palace Bucharest, Crowne Plaza Bucharest, three hotels in Poiana Brașov—Sport, Bradul, and Poiana—as well as Hotel Europa and the ANA Health Spa in Eforie Nord.
