In 2020, World Teachers’ Day celebrates teachers with the theme “Teachers: Leading in crisis, reimagining the future”. The day highlights the importance the teachers have made during the COVID-19 pandemic, drawing the attention on the efforts done by them ensuring that no one is left behind.
T
his year, it is the perfect opportunity to celebrate and reflect on the hard work and effort that everyone involved in education has done to adapt and continue teaching in new and difficult circumstances.
As mentioned during the UNESCO’s declaration during Education Day (24th of January 2020), “Education’s aim is humanistic, focusing on collective development ambitions. Its mission is to help all people to fully develop their talents and realize their creative potentials, including responsibility for their own lives and capacity to contribute to society. It is a powerful tool, as well for combating inequality and poverty, improving well-being and overcoming discrimination.”
Last but not least EDUCATION is a fundamental right!
For most of us in teaching, the coronavirus pandemic has probably been our biggest challenge. The way we have managed to overcome all problems by bringing innovation, resources and technology in our virtual classrooms and confronted all issues and pitfalls has proved our resilience.
The future is TODAY if we like it or not! We can no longer say –“the future” of digital technologies-. We find ourselves at the centre of technological assistance to our way of life. Teaching, socialising, educating, working and much more has changed in recent months. Now it is the time to raise awareness about the benefits and challenges of the digital space, building a better and safer place for children in the new school year.
“Leading in crisis, reimagining the future” – well, how about we lead by example and imagine a future together!
