Ground Control to Major Tom,
Every events manager’s nightmare is to have everything perfectly prepared for your next grand event and still… some of your attendees will simply not know how to get in. Bad onboarding preparation often leads to failed digital events. This time around we took a look at the causes of potential onboarding failures (“I don’t remember what email I used”, “I don’t have access to that inbox anymore”, etc.) and we engineered a new type of ticket: the floating ticket.

What’s a floating ticket?
It’s a ticket identified by a unique code that grants access to an event regardless of the identity (email) used to authenticate. You still need to log in using your preferred identity but, contrary to the nominal tickets, this one does not restrict you to a specific identity.
Why should I use floating tickets?
Using floating tickets in your onboarding strategy allows you access to various scenarios:
- Issues complimentary tickets in bulk and distribute them to a partner, a department, etc. (you don’t need to worry about who exactly is going to use those tickets)
- Allow attendees who bought a ticket using their personal email address to access the event using the same ticket but with another email address
- One attendee wants to give their ticket to another person since they can’t attend: now they can do that by design
- Attendees to share a ticket: One person can attend the AM session, the other person the PM session, but never at the same time
- Clients purchase a group of tickets and hand them out to individual attendees, no registration required
- Print out tickets with QR code to send to attendees, the old fashioned way
- Attendees can now easily switch from their phones to their laptops even when using different identities
Are floating tickets secure?
Yes, floating tickets, like nominal tickets, still require a secure login (email + name) from your attendees. Similarly: only one attendee can use them at a time. The major difference is that nominal tickets require a specific pre-defined identity while floating tickets allow any one identity.
Floating tickets or nominal tickets?
Why not both? We acknowledge that digital events can have wildly different setups and needs. You can freely use any combination of these types of tickets to suit your specific requirements.
We believe this new concept of floating tickets introduces some welcome flexibility for your next digital event and remove an annoying barrier of entry for your attendees.
