Alex’s story:
My family were truly speechless when we found out 2 months ago, in the middle of the lockdown that our son Alex would be receiving a guide dog! Alex lost his sight due to retinitis pigmentosa (RP) when he was 15 years old, while we were working in
Italy. As a mum, I am writing to you to let you how Light into Europe truly helped my family!
NEW HOPE FOR THE FUTURE
Due to lack of accessibility in the University of Iasi, I have spent my last 3 years accompanying my son every day to courses and back home. Every day I was praying that soon, my son will become independent and able to go out by himself whenever he wants. Alex finished his University degree in Italian language and aspires to be a dedicated professional, but companies are reluctant to hire a Blind person. When Guide dog Desmond came to our home at the end of June, it was like entering another world. It was like entering another way of being! Alex continues: For me, the biggest change in my life is that after the first week, I realized that this is the first time in quite a long time I was able to go out by myself without my mum, or a companion. I could just pick up the harness and walk out the door.
