Extension of the economy cycle of products, the sustainable and greener flow of operations and production, the active involvement, motivation and persuasion of consumers in the circularity process and in short, minimizing and smart management of waste are part of the circular global story. Circularity switched from intention to a fully standardized and normed domain, countries, including Romania have now a National Strategy for the Circular Economy, metrics to be achieved, assumed commitments to international organizations.
To highlight the developments of the circular economy in Romania, The Diplomat-Bucharest is organizing the 4th Edition on March 26 at InterContinental Athénée Palace Bucharest, Regina Maria Hall, the conference dedicated to the
CIRCULAR ECONOMY updates in 2024.

THE ACTION PLAN OF THE NATIONAL CIRCULAR ECONOMY STRATEGY
Adopted by the Romanian Government in October 2023, the action plan for the National Strategy on the circular economy has been one of the milestones of the Waste Management Reform, related to the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR). The development of the Action Plan for the Circular Economy (PAEC) by the Department for Sustainable Development, in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, Water and Forests (MMAP) and the Ministry of Economy, Entrepreneurship and Tourism (MEAT) was carried out within a project financed by the Support Instrument Technically managed by the General Directorate Support for Structural Reforms of the European Commission – DG Reform.
The action plan resulted in 52 steps and seven economy sectors to be implemented, as well as developing a digital platform to track and communicate in regarding the implementation of circular economy actions, performance indicators.
11:40 – 11:50 Coffee Break
11:50 – 13:00 SESSION II CIRCULAR ECONOMY PUT INTO PRACTICE
The transition to circular economy must take place in such a way that it does not affect quality, productivity, competitiveness and performance. This is even more important since the business environment in Romania is characterized by small and medium-sized enterprises, with a significant presence of micro-enterprises, which have a relatively important contribution in terms of added value and jobs. The transition to the circular economy is challenging authorities, businesses and consumers to rethink production and consumption patterns and redefine the term “growth” by turning it into one encompassing social and environmental benefits beyond economic profit. The circular economy follows decoupling economic activity from the use of natural resources, safely circulating materials through technosphere and biosphere, while removing negative externalities (waste and pollution) from the system.
