The British Romanian Chamber of Commerce (BRCC) is pleased to announce a great achievement from our partners in Sibiu, Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu (ULBS).

ULBS was selected as one of 10 educational establishments to receive a grant from the mini-grant session for entrepreneurial projects in universities, organized by Junior Achievement Romania, with the support of the Romanian-American Foundation for the Meet the Entrepreneur project.

ULBS collaborates on the Meet the Entrepreneur project with the BRCC and other local business group such as, the Francophone Business Club (CFAS), Elite Business Women Network (EBW) and Deutscher Wirtschaftsclub Siebenbürgen (DWS) .  The original concept was initated by BRCC with ULBS. ULBS provides all the co-ordination, marketing, facilities and hosting of the program. Meet the Entrepreneur series – launched in 2018,  has held around 14 meetings between successful entrepreneurs from the Sibiu and braoder Romanian and International community.  The entrepreneurs share their expertise in a specific field or their experience on problem solving in their business.

This is a student program and open community initiative where ULBS targets students across all disciplines (not just economic/business related) and aims to give them access to practical insights from entrepreneurs.  Around 100 students and 30 local community benefit directly.

ULBS work with the BRCC  to identify and reach out to entrepreneur speakers and raise awareness for the program. The project seeks to get a wide mix of different industries represented by speakers as well as different stages of entrepreneurial success from early start up to entrepreneurs who have successfully exited their businesses.

Meet the Entrepreneur is a fortnightly open community program that brings entrepreneurs directly in front of students and local business owners, to learn from the experience, good and bad gained in the entrepreneur journey. The 90-minute talks, involve a mixed format designed to help attendees learn the key challenges, tips and insights in running and growing a business.  The format allows for interactive questions before and during the event, enabling the audience to learn from practical experiences.

Meet the Entrepreneur has had a positive impact so far. With the received grant the project aims to move the ability to access the learnings to be at any time and to access historic content. Until now only those attending the talk in person, had the ability to learn.  A digital content library and access to this will expand the impact, it will also allow ULBS to open this platform wider across Romania.

The programme is also sustainable. By involving the Business Groups to help find speakers, ULBS have had access to international speakers as well as local and national entrepreneurs.

By having increased digital tools, which the grant will enable investment in, ULBS will be able to track metrics and gather more data to help improve the programme in future years.

The project is promoted via a Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/ulbs.eduhub) and within the University by professors both by sharing the knowledge and giving students more details about the program.

British Romanian Chamber of Commerce acts as a big supporter of educational initiatives, as well as connecting Romanian students studying in the UK with corprate placement opportunities.  BRCC will continue to proactively promote the practical learning programmes which help students develop both personally and profesionally. We strongly encourage students and everyone interested in this topic to attend Meet the Entrepreneurs series!
