Here at the British Romanian Chamber of Commerce we value, above all, the right to speak one’s mind about things that matter to individuals and society at large. We believe that having more perspectives in one place brings more value to the discussions and generates greater chances to come up with better solutions and innovative ideas. This, plus the fact that we are contributing to the fulfilment of our members’ objectives, which in turn has a positive impact on the community at large, are strong drivers of the BRCC’s ambitious initiatives in advocacy.
Our advocacy efforts are visible in all of the Chamber’s activities, including events that approach topics of both national and international interest. Nevertheless, besides a sustained dialogue with public authorities, advocacy is conducted through the means of internal working groups and Coaliția pentru Dezvoltarea României.
At the moment, there are three working groups with which the BRCC has monthly meetings: for education together with international schools from the UK in Romania, for NGOs and for real estate and construction, which is also the newest working group of the Chamber.
Ways in which the BRCC comes to its working group members’ aid:
- Facilitating access to certain information or key-authorities;
- Promoting members’ initiatives to the entire community;
- Creating contact with other relevant BRCC members;
As part of the Chamber’s advocacy efforts in the last four months, a significant initiative for the NGO working group was to invite to the monthly meetings companies with experience and knowledge in the fields of EU Funds, CSR and digital marketing. Until now, companies among the BRCC’s members such as Wise Finance Solutions, Colt, Provident, Banca Transilvania, BCR, British American Tobacco, Gun Media, WeContent and Cosmapp have joined our monthly meetings with the NGOs.
The BRCC is an honoured member of Coalitia pentru Dezvoltarea României (CDR), a formal collaborative arrangement between some of the most representative organizations for the business environment in Romania aiming to increase cooperation on topics of great interest for the current national economic climate.
Due to a more inclusive mechanism as part of the alliance’s new governance format, the BRCC has been selected at the beginning of 2022 to occupy the position of co chair together with CCIFER in the working group in charge of the CDR’s strategic theme on improving the healthcare system in Romania. Anca Bundoi from AstraZeneca, one of the BRCC’s members, is the leader of this working group on behalf of the Chamber.
Stability and good governance in the healthcare sector have always been among the Chamber’s primary interests, also given that some of its members are strong actors in the field, such as Regina Maria, Medicover, Medihelp and Telios, to name a few.
Now, the BRCC is one step closer to achieving its goal to become more active in this area by joining forces with CCIFER and lead the joint efforts of all CDR representatives to advocate for changes and improvements in key-areas such as telemedicine, prevention programs and the Malpractice Law.
Investment round tables with BRCC members active in the investment arena. The first round table is set to take place on the
21st of March with the aim to discuss investment opportunities in key-sectors from both Romania and the UK, and draft a program for upcoming events in the field.
More involvement of the Chamber and its members with other influential public bodies. Recently, the BRCC has been invited to participate in 2 round tables organized in Romania and the UK:
- Round table on R&D in Romania organized by the USR Parliamentary Group on 15th of December 2021;
- Round table on EU-UK relations with the EU Ambassador Vale de Almeida on 3rd of March.
