Revolut Business, Europe’s leading fintech, has partnered with Danubius, the leader distributor of fiscal cash registers and in-person payment solutions in Romania.
- This partnership intends to foster innovation and enhance cash flow management for retail networks and points of sale. In the local market, 30% of businesses face difficulties due to slow transaction1 speeds with traditional banking services.
- Revolut and Danubius plan to introduce additional functionalities and features to the market. Their goal is to provide cutting-edge financial services to Romanian entrepreneurs and companies.
Revolut Business and Danubius Exim have recently partnered to increase the flexibility of the merchants and retail networks by offering Revolut Reader to their customers across Romania. The Romanian company is the first in its category, globally, to sign a commitment with Revolut Business for the payments device Revolut Reader, and include an initial fleet of 2,200 terminals. Danubius will also provide training and maintenance services to the future customers acquiring Revolut Reader terminals.
The device will be distributed through Danubius’ national network of over 340 authorized partners, ensuring widespread availability across Romania. The standard price per unit is 40 EUR + VAT. Installation services are currently not subject to additional fees.
Leveraging Smart Technology for Economic and Business Expansion
Revolut Reader equips merchants with a portable payment device capable of accepting both physical and virtual card payments, including those from digital wallets, anytime and anywhere. In Romania, digital payments have surged in popularity, making cash less common. Fintech solutions have become the preferred choice for both consumers and businesses due to their innovative features and rapid transaction processing. A recent Revolut Business survey by Dynata revealed that 30%2 of respondents using traditional banks encountered slow transactions, ranking as the second major issue after high fees (39%). Poor digital and mobile experiences were another significant challenge (19%).
Iulian Boia, Sales Manager Revolut Business Romania, commented: ”Revolut Business is partnering with Danubius, a leading Romanian distributor of payment devices and fiscal terminals, making Romania the first market to host such a collaboration. This partnership, with one of Revolut’s most important partners in Romania, will make Revolut Reader available to a large number of retailers and merchants in a major retail market boasting over 4.5 million clients. This signifies the trust Danubius has placed in Revolut’s products and our commitment to support Romanian merchants with innovative technological solutions and local partnerships.
Revolut is excited to support the development of a seamless and dependable payment ecosystem in Romania, empowering businesses and entrepreneurs to enhance their competitive edge. Research indicates that fintech companies are valued in the B2B sector primarily for their innovative offerings (55%), and entrepreneurs favor digital banks over traditional ones due to their transaction processing efficiency (85%). Revolut Reader effectively addresses these requirements, and we are pleased to broaden our presence in the Romanian retail market through robust collaborations with respected and experienced partners such as Danubius.”
Velin Ganev, Danubius CEO, said: “For over 30 years, Danubius has stood at the forefront of fiscal innovation, constantly redefining how technology serves the commercial ecosystem. This partnership with Revolut Business — the first of its kind globally — is an extension of our commitment to challenge convention and anticipate the real needs of the market. By becoming the exclusive physical distributor of Revolut Reader, we’re setting a new benchmark in how financial infrastructure and fiscal systems converge.
This hybrid model bridges digital banking and physical retail operations, offering businesses a smarter, faster, and more transparent way to grow. Romania takes a leading role through this collaboration, and we’re proud to make that happen.”
