The Romanian software development company, Roweb, participated in the Tech Day organised at Brancoveanu University in Pitesti.
The event is dedicated to highschool students and is based on STEAM education (an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics), which shows the importance of combining knowledge from several school disciplines in forming an educational background that prepares young people for a successful career.
During the presentation, the Roweb team talked about:
- Brand’s story, founded in 2004 and the challenges the company has overcome over time, growing from a team of 6 people to over 130 employees.
- What a career in software development entails, and what employer branding programs the Roweb team organises every year.
- The main success stories from the portfolio through which technology brought real benefits to those who chose to invest in digitisation. A concrete example is the Tourpaq platform, used by hundreds of thousands of tourists and travel agencies in Nordic countries to book vacations quickly and easily.
- Stereotypes related to software development. For example, it is quite a popular concept that people who work in IT have technical knowledge of logical, analytical and development-oriented thinking. These aspects are true, but Roweb wanted to highlight that they are not enough to build a successful career. When the IT field is recognised for its dynamism and constant evolution, software developers must also prove other soft skills such as flexibility, teamwork, empathy, and the desire to constantly evolve and invest in their careers.
Other education support initiatives and employer branding events organised by Roweb:
- Job Shadow Days – visits to the Roweb headquarters in Craiova and Pitesti, organised for students curious to find out what a working day means in a software application development company;
- Jobs 4 IT – an event dedicated to students from technical faculties who are interested in building a career in software development;
- Open Doors – visit to the headquarters in Pitesti of the TehnoZ Lighting Bolts robotics team, to which the Roweb company offered funding to be able to participate in the National Robotics Championship;
- Modernisation of an IT laboratory at the University of Pitesti;
- Summer practice and internship – career events where students are involved in real projects and coordinated by mentors. Starting with 2022, each student had a dedicated mentor, which led to a quick integration into the team and the company.
