Aficionados of cricket, as well as casual fans, will be interested to know that the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) arrives in Romania on Monday evening to play a series of T20 fixtures against Romania’s national team this week.
The matches will be well-fought. Romania will use the MCC visit as a barometer of its progress after its win in the final of the Valletta Cup two weeks ago, a tournament in which Bulgaria, Gibraltar, Hungary, Czech Republic and the hosts Malta also played. Romania is currently in preparation mode for World Cup prequalifying events, which occur in Finland in July.

MCC is perhaps the world’s most famous cricket club, the owner of Lord’s, and the owner of perhaps Lord’s most prestigious asset, the Ashes.
The matches take place on Wednesday and Thursday at 11.30 and 15, at Cricket Romania’s flagship ground at Moara Vlasiei, about 35 kilometres northwest of Bucharest.
Everyone is welcome and attendance is free. It’s likely to be a sunny day so any British Community member considering attending is recommended to bring refreshments, sunglasses and sun protection.
