Working with remote and distributed teams is the “new reality” for most companies. Both employees and managers are analyzing if “back to office” is something they still need and want.

Long before 2020, Roweb’s dev team integrated distributed and remote developers from several cities. At the same time, our clients were/are also located in various countries/cities.

For us, working with remote and distributed teams provided the opportunity of scaling better professionals to project needs.

Since “scaling” is more a fact that companies have to deal with than a buzzword, we took this challenge seriously. We were aware that if a project team is not scaled at the right time, companies risk plenty of things:

  • developers are overallocated, so the project’s quality can be influenced;
  • developers can feel overwhelmed (and decide to leave the project and the company);
  • the client may choose to change the provider.

The key for doing it right? Communication + right tools for:

  • documents;
  • emails;
  • meetings;
  • task management;
  • projects meetings;
  • using the right methodology (Agile Scrum/ Kanban/ eXtreme programming).

In the office, everything seems to be easier, faster, and within reach. Proximity proves its advantages.

But, in the virtual space, the rules change, and the effort of bringing everybody on the same page (both literally and figuratively) is much higher. And, above all, human interaction is shaken from the ground (even though we have declared ourselves digital-savage).

Our challenge was defined practically by remote collaboration with teams, partners, and clients, disparate data sources and tools, and significant work volume.

Taking into account that especially the project management (from working hours and invoices perspective) is, usually, the most challenging, we’ve decided to develop a custom platform, a portal able to respond to different types of users (employees, managers, admins) at multiple levels (task management, billing, reporting, etc.): TimeReport.

Top features and functionalities integrated by TimeReport

  • multi-users platform;
  • UX/UI design;
  • role-based authorization;
  • users management (add/edit/delete);
  • smart filtering (by date, project, client, etc.);
  • push notifications send to users alerts on several topics (projects, invoices, and hours reports);
  • tags and categories management;
  • custom reports (Timesheet reports, User Reports, Clients Reports, Overall Reports);
  • invoice generator/invoice management/invoice delivery (to the client).
