Almost 90 people gathered on the 13th of June, at Drapers’ Hall in the City of London for the British Romanian Chamber of Commerce Gala Dinner 2017.

Bringing together BRCC members, partner organisations and business leaders with a strong interest in Romania, guests included His Excellency Dan Mihalache, Romanian Ambassador to the UK, Augustin Jianu, Minister for Communications and Information Society, Dragos Andrei, EBRD Alternate Board Director for Romania, Matteo Patrone, EBRD Regional Director for Romania and Bulgaria and Mircea Geoana, President of the Aspen Institute, Romania.

Following opening remarks by Charlie Crocker, CEO of the BRCC and HE Dan Mihalache, the centre-piece of the evening was an address by Shanker Singham, Director of Economic Policy and Prosperity Studies, at the Legatum Institute. Shanker shared his thoughts on the UK’s post-Brexit trade policy and how Britain can be the driving force behind a renewed global commitment to free trade and a liberal economic order.

Mr Singham flew the next day to Bucharest to launch the Legatum Institute’s Central and Eastern Europe Prosperity Report, copies of which are available here http://www.li.com/activities/publications/central-and-eastern-europe-prosperity-report

The BRCC dinner this year also served as a welcome for participants at the EBRD-Emerging Europe Outlook on Romania Conference on 14 June. Attended by over 200 people the conference featured a keynote speech by Rt Hon Greg Hands MP, UK Minister of State for Trade and Investment. A long-time friend of Romania, Mr Hands will attend a major civil nuclear forum in Bucharest later this year.
