BRCC MEMBERS’ INTERACTIVE ROUNDTABLE DISCUSSIONS 11 JUNE 2009 KPMG HQ, BUCHAREST

The British Romanian Chamber of Commerce organised an EU Funding Opportunities workshop on 11 June 2009, at the KPMG conference room. Mr. Raymond Breden, a Director of the BRCC and Director of Taxation Services at KPMG Romania was the moderator of the event.
The purpose of the meeting was to inform the members about EU funding opportunities in 2009 and beyond, and to provide a practical guide for EU funding accession. Mrs. Cristine Barbu, Manager, Advisory Services, KPMG, and Mrs. Irina Stanciu, Managing Partner, Byron Associates briefed the audience on several key issues and challenges that Romanian companies face in relation to accessing EU funds, as well as on some recent news regarding legislative amendments of interest in this respect.
Mrs. Stanciu presented A Practical Guide to EU funding, briefly introducing the EU funds available in Romania, the general framework and the way the funds are being managed and the development regions. She underscored the four funding programs for private beneficiaries.

Mrs. Cristine Barbu’s presentation highlighted some changes in 2009.
She also informed the participants about the procurement rules to be observed for EU funds accession and on the steps and timelines to apply for EU funding.

The audience included around 40 members from among the BRCC members and Associate Members. The event was much appreciated as it offered first hand, clear information about proceedings to be followed for EU funds accession and utilization.
