A report from the National Diagnostic Institute shows that one in ten patients in Romania receives a wrong diagnosis. Moreover, one in six patients is afraid he/she might receive an incorrect diagnosis or an ineffective treatment plan, because of the low level of public confidence in the public health system. In this context, an increasing number of people turn to a second medical opinion that involves repeating the set of analyses or choosing a different physician to interpret the results obtained from medical investigations.

In most cases, patients decide to turn to a second medical opinion when they receive a diagnosis of serious illness, but everyone has the right to have this option, according to Law 46/2003, art. 11 in Romania. The repetition of analyses or discussions with another physician brings many benefits to patients, including: 100% confirmation of diagnosis, choice of the best treatment that exists according to the results of the analysis and the medical history, identification of options and finding out all the implications of the treatment scheme.

In this context, private health insurance is the surest alternative to having the certainty of a second certified medical opinion. Thus, the patient will have a clearer perspective on the situation and the steps he/she has to follow toward recovery. In order to support people in difficult medical situations, together with the British insurer LAMP Insurance, we have created NESAcard – a product that covers initial investigations for cancer diagnosis or the benefit of money in the amount of 2000 euros, but also a second medical opinion, at NESA (New European Surgical Academy), says Zahal Levy, President of MediHelp International.

Taking into account the fact that in recent years, Romanians’ concern about their health and their desire to receive the treatment they need has increased, the second medical opinion is yet another important step taken by patients in order to ensure that they receive the best health care they need.

Accessing this service within an international surgical network that includes Paneuropean and global opinion leaders in oncology and oncology surgery, with members in 54 countries, can be performed through NESAcard for just 33 euro/year.
