Halewood Wines & Spirits launches, in Romania, the super-premium Whitley Neill Gin, inspired by Africa
Bucharest, March 8th, 2017. Halewood Wines & Spirits, a subsidiary of the largest independent producer of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks in Great Britain, announces expanding the portfolio of wines with spirits drinks. In this context, the company launches a new product in Romania – Whitley Neill Gin – a handcrafted gin, super-premium, of exceptional quality inspired by the beauty and mystery of Africa, but also by the desire of his creator to achieve perfection. The official launch took place in the presence of Johnny Neill, the creator and founder of Whitley Neill Gin, at the residency of the British Ambassador in Romania.
Whitley Neill Gin is a handcrafted London Dry Gin, super-premium, crafted in London, but inspired by Africa. Distilled in small batches by Johnny Neill, descendant of a family of distillers with tradition since 1762, Whitley Neill brings together eight generations of expertise and a blend of nine botanicals carefully selected: African Cape Gooseberry, orange and lemon peel, juniper berries , coriander seeds, angelica root, Florentine iris, cassia bark and baobab fruit, Whitley Neill Gin’s distinctive signature.
Gin, a trendy category (again)
Whitley Neill Gin is distilled in small batches in England’s oldest copper pot still, nicknamed ‘Constance’, after our Master distiller’s late mother. Each distillation is carried out using techniques perfected over many generations and using the finest, freshest botanicals and the expertise of our Master Distiller. The result is inimitable award-winning gin. In 2011, Whitley Neill Gin was voted “Best gin of the Year” at the International Wine & Spirits contest. In 2013, Whitley Neill Gin received the gold medal at the International Spirits Challenge, at the super premium category and the title of Master Gin, at the super premium category in the Gin Drinks Business Masters contest. In 2014, Whitley Neill was awarded the gold medal at the World Spirits Competition in San Francisco.
“Gin, a drink that had sold better than beer in England in the 18th century, seems to regain its supremacy among spirits. In England, France and Spain, the popularity of this drink is already confirmed by various gin-bars devoted exclusively to this product, popular and trendy especially during summer, but not only. Gradually, I can notice a comeback of this drink among the public in Romania, to whom we offer a gin with a unique character, of exceptional quality inspired by the mystery of Africa. Whether you choose a gin & tonic, the well-known recipe, or even more sophisticated cocktails, Whitley Neill Gin means a blend of baobab, orange peel, spices and floral flavours, which make it a unique gin that stands out in the market “, said Johnny Neill, creator and founder of Whitley Neill Gin.
Halewood Wines & Spirits plans to invest over 1 mil. Euros in 2017
The launch of Whitley Neil Gin marks a series of changes for Halewood Wines & Spirits, one of the top wine producers in Romania, who continues its portfolio expansion with spirits.
“Last year, we made significant investments in our cellar in Tohani, Dealu Mare region, worth over 10 million euro, both in the primary processing of the grapes, as well as in the vineyards we own in that area. This year, we plan investments of more than 1 million euro at our factory in Ploiesti. Halewood Group therefore goes through a period of accelerated development this year, through the portfolio expansion, which includes, besides the local produced wine brands and the private labels for our clients – which are still the focus – the spirit drinks, both for the mainstream segment, as well as the premium and super premium segments. Introducing the spirits in our portfolio will strengthen our market position and the results gained in the last two decades by the Halewood team ensures all premises to acomplish the new targets”, said Paul Murden, General Manager Halewood Romania Wines & Spirits.
“Supporting and encouraging the British business community present on the Romanian market is one of our most important missions. Halewood Wines & Spirits, a subsidiary of the largest manufacturer of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks in the Great Britain, is our traditional partner and we welcome the constant investments they make on the Romanian market“, said Paul Brummel, the British Ambassador in Romania.
