John Chown is a monetary economist (Adam Smith Prize and Wrenbury Scholarship at Cambridge), but made his career and reputation in international tax. A co-founder and active Executive Committee member of the Institute for Fiscal Studies, he is on the Committees of the International Tax Specialist Group, and the Political Economy Club, and active in The European Government Business Relations Council, (the “Ad Hoc Council”), and the Advisory Council of the Official Monetary and Financial Institutions Forum (OMFIF).
He has worked in many, mainly ex-Communist, countries advising on the tax and other policy aspects of developing and transitional capital markets and is still involved in many broad public policy issues in the UK, EU and elsewhere.
He is now active, with a group, as an adviser in new high-tech business start-ups, mainly in alternative energy and Biopharma, particularly taking into account international opportunities, including the optimum use of tax and financial incentives in various countries.
