Romania's property market became a target for institutional investors following the country's accession to EU in January 2007. This led to significant profit-making for local and regional investors, who benefited from the systemic change of the 1990’s and the fast-paced value inflation that followed. 2007 was a stellar year for Romania's property market; as the number, size and pricing of property transactions reached record levels there were clear signs that the local market was over-heating. Many chose to ignore them, in the belief that the country's over-optimistic government and people's natural appetite for a better standard of living would deliver ever-higher investment returns

The 2010 British Days Gala Dinner will take place on 30th June 2010 in the Diplomat Ballroom of the Athénée Palace Hilton Hotel, Bucharest. As his term of office draws to a close, HMA Robin Barnett, British Ambassador to Romania has been an invaluable friend and supporter of the efforts of the BRCC during his time in Romania, and we will miss him greatly. We are delighted that Ambassador Barnett has agreed to be our guest of honour and key speaker at our 2010 British Days Gala Dinner and we look forward to hearing his overview of his time in Romania; his thoughts regarding Romania’s future and the “new chapter” in the UK’s very own political history. We will again be raising much need funds for our nominated Associate Member Charity and we are pleased to announce that this year’s beneficiary is FARA.

The latest in the series of BRCC CityLink briefing events centres on the economic lessons that can be learned by Romania from the Celtic Tiger phenomenon in Ireland, and if the Irish economic model can be replicated or if aspects of it can be applied to a post-crisis Romania. Furthermore, if Romania can achieve political consensus leading to a coherent economic programme that is positive rather than responsive to pressure from International Financial Institutions. The discussions will continue with what Romania can do in order to balance its economy.
