On 19 April 2018, Raluca Nechimis Law Office and EMEA Conferences organizes a new event: „DPO: Hurdels and Solutions”.

At this conference, two international experts and two local ones will provide insights on the challenges, missions and competences of the Data Protection Officer (DPO).

The event will shed light on the role, the main concerns and the best practices within the activity of a DPO, will explore the DPO’s powers within a company and what are the necessary resources for him to attain his role.

Attend the event and get clear answers and examples on the following issues, among others:
• Who needs a DPO?
• What professional qualifications a DPO must have?
• Can organizations appoint a DPO jointly? If so, in which conditions?

Speakers:
Benoit van Asbroeck is a data protection specialist and a partner in Bird & Bird, Brussels Brussels office. He leads the Data Protection, Tech & Comms and Media practices of Bird & Bird Belgium. Benoit advises clients on a variety of legal matters around privacy, data, e-commerce, digital marketing, cloud computing, the internet of things, AI, 3D printing, cookies, electronic signatures, intermediary liability and automated objects.
Benoit has also successfully conducted matters with the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) and lobbied public authorities in the context of CJEU procedures and legislative processes, including a landmark privacy case (Scarlet – CJEU). Benoit has participated as a legal partner in different H2020 EU funded consortia. He is a guest lecturer at the Katholieke Universiteit Brussel and at the University of Valenciennes (France). He acts as a substitute commercial judge and mediator/arbitrator at the World Intellectual Property Office. He recently co-authored the book “Vers un droit européen de la protection des données?” published by Larcier, where he focused on companies’ compliance obligations with respect to the GDPR.

Jose Belo (CIPP/E and CIPM) is the CPO and Technology, IP, Privacy and Data Protection Counsel of DATTA- Privacy Solutions, a data privacy consulting firm in Portugal. Jose is also Co-Chair of the IAPP’s Lisboa (Portugal) KnowledgeNet Chapter, a lecturer on data protection and privacy, founding member and current Board member of the Portuguese DPO and Other Privacy Professionals Association and a speaker at multiple events in Europe in data protection, privacy and its implications on technology. Jose holds an LL.B in Law from the University of Coimbra and a Law and Technology Certificate from the University of California at Berkeley’s Boalt Hall School of Law.

Cătălin Pătrascu is Head of Information Security and Monitoring Department of CERT-RO.

Alex Gheorghe acts as a Certified Data Protection Officer (by PECB Canada) at Provident Financial Romania and is an experienced Legal Counsel – with 10 years of experience – offering legal advice and support to internationally owned companies located both within and outside the European Union.
